“Profiled from Atmospheres” Consortium Commission for Saxophone/Percussion

WeissSoflinDuoPhoto_650x180_smThe Weiss/Soflin Duo are organizing a consortium commission of a new Matthew Burtner piece for saxophone and percussion.  The new work, “Profiled from Atmospheres,” tracks the three primary greenhouse gasses emitted by humans across the years 1959, 1987, 2015 and projected to 2050. The atmospheric profiles result in four chords that define the harmonic foundation of the piece. The instrumental parts also sonify the accumulation of these greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.

The consortium commission offers opportunities for musicians to be involved as a Premiere Commissioner with one year of exclusivity and commissioner naming in the score, or as a Consortium Commission Member, designated as such in the score and receiving performance rights after the year of exclusivity.  There are also neat opportunities for non-musicians to engage with and support the commission, including receiving a limited edition collector score.
